Self Care is Soul Care
Sometimes we think that the “self care” fad of the world around us is selfishness. It prioritizes our wants and needs while pushing others’ out of the way. It becomes self-indulgent and not self-sacrificial.
Soul care is a phrase used by many believers to describe the type of self care we must have as followers of Jesus. We must take care of ourselves! We cannot pour from an empty cup; we cannot give love and serve others if we ourselves have not been poured into or filled up ourselves.
Soul care looks like not only investing our time in spiritual disciplines (not just Scripture and prayer, but silence, solitude, celebration, etc). It also looks like finding out what fills you instead of drains you. I’ve heard these things called "gainers" & "drainers." What is it that depletes you and takes your energy? In order to invest in your soul, you need to balance those with gainers—the things that refresh and recharge you. This could be as simple as time with family or friends, to something like a hobby or a simple action. How are you balancing gainers and drainers in your life?
Whatever you do, be sure to have the things that replenish your soul in your routines. Do not become depleted or drained; let Jesus meet you in the ways that are filling, in order that your soul and life are abundant and able to overflow!
- Pastor Emma
"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness." ~ Colossians 2:6-7 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” ~ Matthew 11:28-30
"An external change cannot alleviate an internal torment. You must reconstruct the foundation of your soul upon the truth of who you are in Christ." ~ Rob Reimer |

Amherst Wesleyan: 1. We already have one person lined up for our Easter Sunday Baptism! 2. As we have conversations and hear about experiences people are having in our services it feels like our church is actively taking ground with new authority. Connection Church: 1. We held out first Leadership Team meeting to talk about how we want to move forward with ministry and helping people find their places, and it went really well. One person in the meeting shared, "I still don't know what my gifting is." Which was an incredible confirmation to us that what we are doing is exactly what our church needs! 2. Our world travellers are back safe and sound from visiting the church in Egypt! |

Busy Busy BusyJunk Food - Sunday, February 22, 2026 We tell ourselves that we need to keep busy and that being busy is a sign of success. Yet, being busy doesn't always get us what we are hoping for, and it can actually get in the way of what we are trying to get. Busy-ness is a kind of "junk food" for your time; it fills up your schedule but leaves you with very little to show for it. John 21:3-6 Doing the right things better than doing all the things. Pastor AppreciationFrom Mark O'Keefe My name is Mark O’Keefe, and I’m the vice chair of the Local Board of Administration (LBA) at Amherst Wesleyan Church. Once a year we take time to highlight our appreciation for the pastors God has appointed over us: Pastor Evan and Pastor Brad in Amherst, and Pastor Emma in Truro. Theirs is not an easy job. There is much more to it than just delivering a message once a week on Sunday. They have the responsibility of encouraging believers and followers of Jesus who attend our fellowship to grow in their faith, obedience and relationship to God through Jesus Christ. They feed us through the preaching and teaching of the Word of God and their own personal experience. That takes work. They live and lead by example. They share in the pains and struggles of the people under their care, and they offer advice and counsel to those who need and ask for help in spiritual and practical matters in their journey of faith. One thing pastors are not, is perfect. Often they are misunderstood. They struggle with the same things we all do: temptations, relationships, direction, fears and anxieties, financial stresses, insecurities, concerns with the future. But because of this, they are able to relate with many of us in our trials of how God is able to take our messes and brokenness and give us strength and hope for today and eternity. The role of a pastor is a calling and a position of service. Not just anyone can do it. Mark 9:35 says “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.” Who wants to be last? Who wants to be a servant? Pastors are often called Shepherd of the flock, “… the good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep…” Who wants to lay their life down? But God has equipped those He calls as pastors for the job at hand. They often fight battles we know nothing about. They need our prayers. They need our encouragement. They need to know they are making a difference. Please keep praying for pastors Evan, Brad and Emma, and take the time to send a card, an email, a note in the offering box, to say how their ministry has affected and been a blessing to you. God has blessed us with gifted and anointed pastors, let’s show our appreciation! |
