Vision
Back when we got hit with tha big hurricane that knocked out power and trees and everything a couple years ago, I was very anxious and worried about it. I was anxious before and during the storm. I couldn't help thinking about possible problems, possible outcomes. Will the basement flood, will a tree come down on the house, what do we do if... In talking to my dad about that he mentioned something that still hasn't quite sunk in, though I am working on it. He said to me, "Maybe God wants your basement to flood." What? Why would God want my basement to flood? That's not a good thing, that's a bad thing! Does dad think I did something wrong and God may want to punish me? Doesn't God want good for us if we are doing the right things? Well, I think God wants good for us, regardless. I also know that sometimes God allows, and even causes, some hard things to happen to us so it can make a positive difference for someone else, because our mission is much bigger than me right here right now. And... I know that God can use seemingly bad things to ultimately bring about good to me. Maybe that disaster actually saves me from something else. Maybe that bad thing leads me to change and become more like Jesus. I am still trying to remember this, and trying to get it through my thick skull. Maybe the struggles we are facing today are happening on purpose because God is using them to do something big. Maybe He will do something big in spite of these things. I'm not sure. But if God wants it to happen, is causing it, or is just allowing it, I want to trust Him with it. That's where I want to be. |
Prayer Project
We encourage everyone to take time to fast and pray each Thursday at lunch. We want to invest more in this practice and ask you to join us in this project. Each Thursday on our Facebook Page we will do a short live video at noon. We will also be sending out a weekly prayer project as part of the newsletter, and posted to our Facebook Page.
This Week's Project: This is a hard one. The challenge this week is to pray each day for the next week with thansgiving for a hard or painful situation you are going through! Philippians 4:4-7 makes it pretty clear that we should be rejoicing always and praying with thanksgiving if we want the peace of God that goes beyond what makes any sense! I know this sounds kinda dumb, but Paul is very clear in this passage that this is what leads to conquering anxiety and being filled with peace. So let's try it. Thank God for the hard and painful stuff this week, and see how God works and brings peace. |
