Vision
I normally have no interest in making any public statement about what politicians say, or other pastors. With all the pressures going on in our town around COVID and an outbreak linked to another church, and recent statements from their pastor, I feel I should make a couple statements though: 1. I believe in God's providence and His will, and I also believe that we are accountable for our actions. I need to be very cautious about what I say is "God's will" and what is not. I know that death is the enemy, and is never a light thing, even for someone who follows Jesus and has the promise of resurrection. I believe that God can use anything to bring about good, but I don't believe that means that God causes bad things. I believe that means God is able to turn things around when bad things happen. Our actions have consequences, they aren't the will of God. He's the one that saves us from evil, He doesn't cause it. 2. I want to assure you that we are working hard to follow the rules that have been put in place, while also reaching everyone we can, and the evidence suggests that our services are safe. Dr. Strang actually said this, "We are not seeing... regular [faith] services as any significant drivers of transmission of the virus. The vast majority of faith organizations are working really hard to follow the public health rules; there's been some outliers. We need to deal with the outliers, not paint everybody in the faith community with the same brush. Because the epidemiology does not justify taking a broad brush approach to this" (you can watch his full statement HERE particularly at timestamp 33:50). Thus, no changes have been made to the rules. I'm saying all this just because I want to be clear about who we are, what we believe and what we are doing. We'll get through this thing. Hang in there. |
